Let me share my top three favorite foods: first, bakso (meatball soup), followed by sate padang and sate taichan. Having tried these extensively, I believe taste buds never lie.

Hunting for authentic sate padang in Bali is quite a task. While Padang restaurants abound, not all offer sate padang. Even if found on the menu, the flavors often lack the robustness that defines Indonesian cuisine—perhaps toned down for the predominantly international tourist clientele in Bali.

After much searching, I finally found it. Yes, the best sate padang in Bali!

Sate Padang Canggu, Bali

Location: Sate Padang Canggu

This was the first truly delicious sate padang I tried after a year in Bali, transitioning from Ubud to Kuta. Recommended by a friend in Canggu, this place is a gem. Operating only at night, typically from 7 pm to 11 pm, it sells out fast. Priced around Rp. 25,000 - Rp. 30,000, it's still a steal considering its taste and location amidst pricier cafes and restaurants, even across from a trendy food court in Canggu.

Sate Padang Dewi Sri Kuta, Bali

Location: Dewi Sri Food Center

Despite residing in Kuta, my first encounter with great sate padang happened in Canggu. Curious, I sought out the nearest sate padang from home, leading me to a late-night food court in Kuta. Fortunately, Kuta never sleeps at night, making the streets safe for midnight excursions. While I've frequented this spot before, usually for their delicious Sop Iga (rib soup), this time, I tried their sate padang. No regrets—this is the best sate padang in Kuta, Bali. Though its flavor profile is lighter compared to Sate Padang Canggu, the boldness of its spices and chili is prominent. Generous portions ensure satisfaction, even without rice cakes. While slightly pricier than its Canggu counterpart, it cost around Rp. 45,000 per serving, the taste and ample servings make it worth every penny.

So, whether you're vacationing in Bali or a local longing for the authentic taste of sate padang, untainted by foreigner-friendly adjustments, you must try these two delicious sate padang spots in Bali.
