Have you ever had Korean BBQ in Canggu, Bali? There are countless dining options in Bali, but when it comes to Korean cuisine, things can get a bit tricky. The worldwide popularity of K-pop has made Korean food more beloved, and it has led to a growing number of Korean menu choices all around Indonesia, including Bali. However, not all of them are authentic. So, it can be a bit challenging to find a restaurant or cafe with a genuine Korean theme.

Ever since I started living in the Canggu area, I would pass by this restaurant every day on my way home from work. From the very beginning, I was curious about it. The restaurant has a Korean soju concept with its distinctive aluminum tables. Months went by, but I couldn't find the right time to try the food there. However, the Korean concept in this place became more pronounced with its white walls covered in customer reviews, much like a typical Korean eatery. Even after moving to the Kuta area, I still couldn't resist stopping by Canggu whenever I had the chance.

Finally, on my birthday, on a weekday, I decided to go to Seoul BBQ. Despite the more than 40-minute journey, I was determined to experience authentic Korean BBQ at this place, which is run by a native Korean. Since it was quite late, the restaurant wasn't too crowded, and it was comfortable for someone like me, who is a bit of an introvert. I ordered a set for two, which cost approximately IDR 160,000 with drinks, but I later realized that it wasn't quite enough. The amount of meat provided was rather limited. Next time, I'll order more!

However, the service at Seoul BBQ was excellent. They wished me a happy birthday and even helped us with the Korean way of cooking and eating. There was a slight miscommunication at the beginning because the boss thought the staff was neglecting us, so we hadn't started cooking yet. We were actually busy chatting and taking photos. We felt a bit embarrassed and confused when they explained how to cook and eat while the boss was closely watching us. Perhaps the staff was undergoing some sort of training, but it made us a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully, the staff will pass the training with flying colors! 💚

Usually, after a Korean BBQ meal, it's a great idea to try makgeolli, which is a traditional rice-based drink, but they had run out of it, unfortunately. I was really curious about its taste. Next time, I won't forget to stop by and order some makgeolli.
